Question by steve-o: I plan on walking to new york?
Hey everyone. I’m 18 and in the summer of this year, in about 3 months I plan on walking to Bronx new York from where I am,, west haven Connecticut. I seen online that that distance is 79 miles. Now I’m going to start to walk everywhere I go for training persay. My choice of footwear is vibram 5fingers kso. I tend to be barefoot a lot so my feet are used to the outside sensation. Any tips from people who’ve done perhaps marathons or hiking camping etc. Oh and another thing, I will be setting up tent. Not staying in for example a hotel. Thank y’all

Even though your feet are used to the elements/ground. With a walk of 79 miles, you will still want to make sure you have a good pair of shoes and make sure that they are comfortable. Try not to pack too heavy because remember, you will have to carry that weight everywhere. It may not seem like much until you actually get started and realize how heavy it becomes as time passes. If you sunburn easily make sure to use sunscreen also. Stick to the main areas of sidewalks and roads that are well traveled, steer clear of “the scenic” route or areas that are not well traveled for safety reasons of course. Also make sure to have something for protection such as pepper spray if it is legal in that area or something else, believe it or not, perfume works good when sprayed in the eyes also. Make sure to take a cell phone and call family or friends every day regularly (also for safety reasons). This will ease the minds also of friends and family who will be concerned while you are doing this. It would be great if you could get a friend to join you. That way you would not be alone. You may want to take an MP3/MP4 player to pass the time. You can charge them in lots of places like fast food restaurants, the lobby of hotels, library, some gas stations, etc. same goes for charging your phone. Make sure to take a visa/MC or prepaid card or debit card so you don’t have to carry a lot of cash, which is dangerous to do. Off the top of my head that is my input, I will let you know if I think of anything else.
